"When I was five years old, a cousin of mine came to take care of me, and he had a paper bag with him and he said, "Would you like to see a horse?" I said, "Yes," so he reached into the paper bag, pulled out a pencil and drew a picture of a horse on the side of the bag. In that moment, I realised you could create life through the vehicle of a pencil, and that sense of the miraculous has never left me.”

1974

In 1974, Milton Glaser erstablished Milton Glaser, Inc. The design firm best reflects Milton Glaser as a person and designer as it specializes in all sorts of design. Then in 1983, Glaser teamed with Walter Bernard to form WBMG, a publication design firm.

Glaser stated in an interview that “I always thought that specialization was early death, and style has always been something that I’ve both embraced and deplored,” a principle that is evident in his work. Milton was a generalist in design and that differentiated him from other designers in that he was always looking for something new and interesting. Staying constant bored him and excelling at many different disciplines drove his curiosity.

2009

Although Milton was reaching retirement age, he never quit designing. In 2009, he was awarded the National Medal of Arts by President Barack Obama. His last project celebrates togetherness, however, he passed in 2020 before finishing.
